A needs assessment for the Scouter-Outer Outdoor Training
can be downloaded and e-mailed to
ahallman@gscab.org prior to
attending the Outdoor Orientation class. The Safety-Wise Scenarios
used as pre-work prior to attending the outdoor training skills
sessions at Camp For All Seasons will be handed out at the Outdoor
Orientation session. IF THE PRE-WORK IS NOT COMPLETED PRIOR TO
THE SKILLS WEEKEND, PARTICIPANTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN FOR
THE TRAINING SESSIONS. Step Four is now required for all who
have not stayed overnight at Camp For All Seasons.
Outdoor Orientation, Camping in, Camping Out, and Swaps, Songs &
S’Mores is an innovative 4-step approach to being trained to deliver
Girl Scout Program in the outdoors. The outdoor program is an
integral part of the Girl Scout experience, and is based on the need
for progression at all age levels, and GSUSA’s endorsement of the
no-trace ethic in outdoor programming as described in the National
Outdoor Leadership School’s Soft Paths. Participants will learn how
to plan overnight camping experiences at each progressive step. The
steps are designed so that after completion of Outdoor Orientation
and Camping In, you may take Camping Out at your convenience when
your girls are ready to tent camp. NOTE: In order for ANY troop or
group to camp, the group must have an adult trained by the council
in outdoor skills. This adult is responsible for training and
preparing the girls for the outdoor experience. Please note that one
person must take the training in its entirety. The “Outdoor
Education in Girl Scouting” book is available for purchase at the
council office. The Scouter Outer Patch will be awarded upon
completion of Step Three.
